Jo was one of 10 authors/illustrators who visited Gulf Shores Elementary as a gift from the Southern Breeze region of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators to victims of hurricanes in February 2006. Jo leads a hands-on characterization workshop at the Mobile Young Authors Conference 2006. Attendees included: George Hall School students Kimberly Arnold and Breunia Lewis; Maryvale students Mary Butler, LaDarris Johnson, and Valencia Smith; and Robbins School student DeVonta Lewis.
